Ronaldo tells Man Utd he wants transfer - and a bidder may already be lined up

Image
Cristiano Ronaldo   has asked to leave   Manchester United. The Portuguese legend has informed Old Trafford’s hierarchy he wants to leave just a year after his sensational return to the club, and has outlined specific reasoning for his request. Sources also believe agent Jorge Mendes may already have a buyer lined up. Why does Ronaldo want to go? Ronaldo is determined to carry on playing in the Champions League as he nears the end of his career, and nd United’s failure to secure a top four finish last season has convinced him he needs to find a club where he can compete for top honours again. The 37-year-old has requested United allow him to leave provided they receive an acceptable offer this summer. United cannot afford to lose Ronaldo without a top class replacement. Top strike target was Nunez - and they didn’t fancy that sort of money, given other transfer requirements. Lack of and cost alternatives is a massive problem this window  #mufc — James Robson (@jamesalanro...

'I'll never forget it' Neymar opens up about meeting Maradona

Image
Neymar  scored twice for  PSG  on their Wednesday Champions League match against  Manchester United  which ended in a 3-1 victory for the Parisians. While the Brazilian star has been famous for over a decade now, his first meeting with  Diego Maradona  dates back to his time as a young teenager when he was playing for Santos. The 28-year-old has remembered this exchange in a recent interview with  Eleven Sports . "I had just a few contacts with Maradona, but I'll never forget the one when I was 12 or 13 years old, "I was just starting at Santos and I went to watch a show match between  Brazil and Argentina - a game  between former players. "As the Brazilian team's bus were already full, I couldn't go with them, so they put me onto Argentina's bus. There were two guys highlighted in there, because they were sitting in the first seats: they were [Alejandro] Mancuso and Maradona. "So they put me alongside them and treated me ...

Tottenham Close in on Deal for Wolves Wing-Back Matt Doherty

Image
Tottenham are at an advanced stage in discussions to sign Matt Doherty from Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers. Doherty emerged as a surprise target for Jose Mourinho earlier in the transfer window, and is an experienced Premier League player who has played a big part in Wolves' rise over recent years. Since making his debut in 2010, the Irish right-back has made over 300 appearances for the club. As per the Independent, however, it appears his time with the club could come to an end, as Spurs seek to address a troublesome area within the squad. Wolves are holding out for near £20m for the 28-year-old, but it is reported that  Tottenham  will consider putting in a lower outright bid that is made up with a series of add-ons. Spurs fans will be familiar with Doherty from last season, as the defender grabbed Wolves' opening goal of his side's 3-2 Premier League win back in January. Current right back option Serge Aurier has come under stinging criticism throughou...

Lyon Proved That Bayern Munich Are Not Untouchable Ahead of PSG Clash

Image
There are, hear me out here, ways to beat Bayern Munich. No, I don't mean giving them all food poisoning. No, I don't mean nicking their boots ahead of kick off. Genuinely, this seemingly impossible task is actually possible. You'll need  everything  to go your way and 10/10 performances across the board, but if Lyon showed us anything on Wednesday night, it's that Die Roten can be got at. What we saw in the previous round against  Barcelona  was a painfully inept game plan from the Spanish side that screamed 'beat me'. What we saw from Lyon was quite the opposite, as despite the defeat, the French giants etched out the blueprint for how to beat Bayern - and here it is: Hans-Dieter Flick's side like to, in no lesser terms, dominate football matches. That doesn't mean bully the opposition off of the ball. Plain and simply, they want possession. All of it. So, taking a leaf out of Barça's book, don't play a flat four in midfield. You're stood i...

The Biggest Champions League Knockout Victories - Ranked

Image
Some of the most memorable matches in football history have come in the  Champions League  knockout stages. Usually, that's because of dramatic comebacks and high-quality performances from all 22 players. However, sometimes, those games go down in infamy for being overwhelmingly one-sided as one team storms to a cricket scoreline with very little difficulty. To be honest, they're just as fun. Let's take a look at the biggest victories in knockout stage history. 11. Schalke 1-6 Real Madrid - Last 16 (2013/14) Real were at their dominant best against Schalke Starting off strong with a nice six-goal haul for  Real Madrid , who were taking no prisoners en route to La Décima in 2013/14. Schalke were the unfortunate victims in the last 16 that year, and they were powerless to prevent  Cristiano Ronaldo , Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale from all finding the back of the net twice. It took Schalke 91 minutes to snatch a goal of their own, although Klaas-Jan Huntelaar's volley m...
