Kevin Phillips Talks Up Liverpool Move for Thiago Alcantara After Jordan Henderson Injury

Image
Kevin Phillips has tipped Thiago Alcantara to add competition to Liverpool's midfield next season, following the news that Jordan Henderson picked up a long-term injury against Brighton. With the new season to commence shortly after the completion of the current restarted campaign, the Reds may be forced to start their title defence without their captain following a knee problem, which he sustained in the 3-1 win this week. Jordan Henderson could be out for a significant time Former Sunderland and West Brom striker Phillips, speaking to  Football Insider , suggested that Jurgen Klopp may need other options to Henderson in the long-term. “Henderson has been amazing," he said. "He has picked up an injury and Klopp said it is not a good one. That is not good and only time will tell what will happen there. “The next season not that far away anyone coming into that area, maybe a Thiago, could slot in quite nicely. There is competition there but these top players do not mind t...

Milan 4-2 Juventus: Report, Ratings & Reaction as Visitors Collapse at San Siro

Image
A dramatic second half collapse from Juventus allowed Milan to come back from two goals down to seal a stunning 4-2 win at San Siro. There was little to note during the first-half, with Zlatan Ibrahimović's disallowed goal for offside the only bit of action worth jotting down on the notepad. Adrien Rabiot is mobbed after scoring his first Juventus goal. Moments after the restart, Juventus hit the front through Adrien Rabiot's first goal for the club before Cristiano Ronaldo steered home his 26th Serie A goal of the season. With La Vecchia Signora 2-0 up, you'd have backed the Old Lady to extend their lead atop Serie A to ten points after Lazio's shock defeat at Lecce. Not long after, Ronaldo took advantage of a defensive mix-up to steer in his 26th league goal for the season and double his team's advantage. But after a long VAR check, Leonardo Bonucci was penalised for handball, giving Milan a penalty and a chance to come back into the game. Step forward Ibrahimović...

Michael Owen Gives Alternative Reason for Liverpool Ending Timo Werner Pursuit

Image
Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen has pointed towards Divock Origi's contract extension as a factor in why the club didn't push the boat out for Timo Werner. Despite being heavily tipped to land RB Leipzig striker Werner for several months, Liverpool decided against a deal and were left to watch on as the player joined Premier League rivals Chelsea instead. With a release clause of £53m, many were surprised Liverpool backed away from the deal. Werner's 28  Bundesliga  goals this season hint at what could be one of the bargains of the summer, but the impact of the pandemic has shifted Liverpool's priorities. Timo Werner joined Chelsea despite months of links to Liverpool Jurgen Klopp has spoken of how the club don't expect to spend big this summer following months of financial uncertainty - though links continue for Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara. With pursestrings tighter than normal, former Red Owen has questioned Liverpool's attacking depth, whi...

Chelsea Must Not Stunt Growth of Current Starlets With Influx Superstars

Image
It's an exciting time to be a Blue. Frank Lampard, club legend is at the wheel, a dynamic and bold crop of academy products are blessing Stamford Bridge on a weekly basis, and the west Londoners are being linked with Europe's elite talents. TImo Werner and Hakim Ziyech have already signed on the dotted line to join the Lampard revolution, and the gifted name of Kai Havertz is also being tipped to make the familiar trip from the Bundesliga to the Premier League this summer. FC Augsburg v RB Leipzig - Bundesliga It's very exciting indeed. But with Chelsea flexing their financial muscles in this coming transfer window, they should do so with a degree of caution. The Premier League giants are already home to some of football's greatest starlets, and with their young boss keen to help them grow into the next group of superstars, recruitment must be necessary, and not opportunistic. Now, we're not saying 'Chelsea don't need Havertz because they have Ross Barkley...

Lionel Messi's 10 Most Memorable Goals

Image
On June 30th 2020, Lionel Messi joined a very exclusive club. With a delicate Panenka penalty against Atletico Madrid, the six time Ballon d'Or winner became only the seventh footballer to score  700 professional goals . With this extraordinary tally, it is difficult to narrow it down, but here are Lionel Messi's ten most memorable goals. 1. vs Albacete (La Liga, 04/05) A photo that will go down in history, as Messi celebrates his first goal with Barcelona legend Ronaldinho Only 17 at the time, the much touted youngster (at the time) scored his first ever professional goal. Collecting a lobbed pass from Ronaldinho, Messi lifted the ball over Albacete goalkeeper Raul Valbuena and into the back of the net. There is an element of symbolism to this goal, as many view it as Ronaldinho passing the torch to the young Argentine. 2. vs Getafe (Copa del Rey, 06/07) Messi evades five challenges as he scores a sensational solo goal For many, this was the moment that turned skeptics into b...
